#2061054 VB CMS product line up

Posted Echelon One on 28 December 2010 - 07:56 PM

I definately would not class the vBulletin CMS even in the same league as any IPS product!  With vBulletin Publishing Suite you are still looking at over 1,300+ unresolved bugs even after 12 months since its release, and numerous other issues.  With IPS you would need at least IP.Board and IP.Content - even with these two products you will have a very powerful system, and bugs well you might find one if you are lucky.

I still have a vBulletin Publishing Suite license and vBSEO, I moved over to IPS around 5 months ago - one thing I will not be doing is ever going back to it!

#2056976 IPS Extras: IP.SEO and IPS Marketplace App released

Posted IPS News on 17 December 2010 - 11:29 AM

Invision Power Services has always tried to offer many services and products as added value to those who have an active IP.Board license. Services like the free, 5-user IP.Chat, spam monitoring service, and skin generator to name a few. Today we are happy to add to that portfolio of free extras for your IP.Board.

IP.SEO 1.0.0 Released

Our new IP.SEO app for IP.Board aims to provide additional search engine optimization feature and tools to our software. IP.Board itself already has many built-in SEO related features and this app builds on those features to extend the capabilities for those who have an interest in SEO. In addition to new capabilities, IP.SEO also looks at your configuration and gives you advice on the best way to ensure that search engines can easily index your community content and properly rank that content.

We are keeping it simple for the 1.0.0 release of IP.SEO and include the following features:

  • IP.Board SEO Advice - IP.SEO lists specific items that you review or change to improve your search performance.
  • Meta Tags, Anywhere - Set custom meta tags and page titles for specific pages, entire sections, or even all pages of your IP.Board site.
  • Sitemaps - Generate a sitemap for your IP.Board content. Currently supporting IP.Board topics and forums, IP.Blog blogs and entries, IP.Content pages, IP.Downloads categories and files, some third party applications, with further support coming soon. Set the number of items from each app to be included, and the priority that should be assigned to them. Full support for the IP.Board permissions system.
  • Sitemap Pings - Once your sitemap has been generated, IP.SEO will automatically "ping" search engines to tell them there's new content available to index.
  • Search Activity Statistics - See how many visits you've had from users coming from search, and from the search engine spiders themselves. See what your top keywords are, or report on specific keywords, search engines and more.

We are very excited about the prospect of this new, free extra product and will be updating it frequently. If you have experience with SEO, please give us your feedback and ideas. You may also want to "Like" the file in the IPS Marketplace so you will get notifications of updates as they are released.

Active IP.Board license holders (and IPS Community Hosting clients) can download IP.SEO in the IPS Marketplace. Just login with the same email and password you use for the IPS client area.

IPS Marketplace App 1.0.0 Released

The IPS Marketplace connects the many thousands of users of IPS community software with our talented community of authors who make many resources for IPS software. IPS Marketplace features skins, hooks, graphics, applications, and more that work with the IPS community software platform. All are contributed by authors in our community. Many are free and some carry a small fee set by the author of the work.

The new IPS Marketplace App allows you to easily browse and discover resources in the IPS Marketplace from within your AdminCP. The new app makes finding fun resources for your community even easier. The first version of the app focuses on browsing resources. Future versions will add more features such as tracking downloaded resources for updates and even streamlined install routines. Please let us know what you think in the IPS Extras forum.

Active IP.Board license holders (and IPS Community Hosting clients) can download the IPS Marketplace app in the IPS Marketplace. Just login with the same email and password you use for the IPS client area.

We hope you enjoy these two new extras added to our already great list of IPS-customer perks!

#2043088 Are there any discounts available?

Posted The Old Man on 15 November 2010 - 07:42 AM

I'm a loyal IPS customer and currently have:
  • 3x IP Board licences
  • 1x IP Blog licence
  • 3x IP Gallery licences
  • and 1x IP Download Manager licence.
I'm a little disappointed because although I'm looking at buying another batch of  licences this time for IP Board, Gallery and Content, I know that if you are a new  retail customer, you can get a discount on each add-on you choose, but existing  members only save on the board licence itself.
A small discount on additional add-on licences for existing customers would be much appreciated and would lessen the initial licence outlay for the first 6 months making it a much more attractive proposition!

#2032836 Private Clubs Function

Posted PPlanet on 23 October 2010 - 07:28 AM

I really like the "Private Club" option blogs have. However, considering the way interaction is normally structured in my forum, it would be great if - apart from adding any individuals as members of a Club - we'd be able to make the blog visible to certain membership groups, pretty much using the same permissions used for the forum (maybe that would have nothing to do with a "Club" as such, but having both options would be great).

Also, Clubs apply to entire blogs; it would be handy sometimes to flag an entry with one permission or another (as opposite to the whole blog).

#1969530 Customer Service Sucks!

Posted R5 Turbo 2 on 11 June 2010 - 04:31 PM

I have purchased most of your products. I wanted help with migration and help in initial setup. I have called numerous times. I have been told you guys would e-mail me or call me back. We have e-mailed your support guys. To date no e-mail or call. I rather stay with VB then deal with poor customer service. How do I get a refund.

#1935559 IP.Board 3.0.5 Security Update

Posted IPS News on 01 April 2010 - 09:31 AM

A minor flaw has been discovered in IP.Board 3.0.5 that would allow an attacker to view images in any arbitrary directory on the server.

Exploiting this flaw would not allow the attacker to upload code or download files, other than images, from your server.  Additionally, to utilize the exploit requires that the attacker know the path to the directory the images are stored in.

This issue was first reported to our tracker by Cryptovirus.

IP.Board 3.0.5
Simply download the attached file, expand and upload the file over the copy on your server
Attached File  3.0.5_3.31.2010.zip   10.45K   1816 downloads

If you are running an earlier version of IP.Board 3.0 or you would like to manually patch your installation, you may do so by modifying admin/sources/classes/member/memberFunctions.php.  Look for the following line of code

//$catName = IPSText::alphanumericalClean( $catName ); // Commented out because alphanumericalClean removes spaces

Change this line of code to

$catName = IPSText::alphanumericalClean( $catName, ' ' );

Save the file and upload to your server.

The main download has been updated at the time of this announcement.

#1923727 Social Groups

Posted peaderfi on 10 March 2010 - 09:12 AM

I've already taken it on board. Some stuff has happened in the past couple of weeks which has slowed down development somewhat but its ~65% done and I'm hoping to get it out in the next couple of weeks.

I think the people are more annoyed when they say "when it is ready" than as an approximate date when they say they can not fulfill. They look more Vbulletin or other developers. There is not who says, "when it is ready", that exists only here at IPS.
I disagree.  I think most people are satisfied knowing we try to put out a quality product when we think it is ready to be released, rather than trying to get a product out the door on a predetermined release date.

#1897187 Social groups as a corporation

Posted Interferon on 09 January 2010 - 01:04 AM

If user accounts are individuals, then it makes sense to think of social groups as a "corporation".  A corporation can use many of the services an individual uses:  It can have a bank account, a cell phone account, or own a house.  In the same way, a "social group" as I see it would have many of the same features as an individual account.  It would be able to upload files, images, and it would have a profile.  It might even have a blog.  I don't suggest allowing a social group to comment on the forum, but the analogy is a pretty good one.

Why use social groups?  They might not be useful for some forums, but for my forum they would be extremely useful.  My users form game projects.  We have the Leadwerks Community MMO, the Leadwerks Community FPS, and other projects.  There would probably be more if they were better facilitated.  As it is, the most I can do for them is post a sticky thread that becomes 20 pages long.

I have one company using my software that has 6 accounts.  They would absolutely love it if they could create a company social group and post images of their game, along with a description of the game.  A single private or public forum at the bottom of the page would be perfect for talking amongst themselves.

I would gladly pay extra for a social groups add-on.  That's my input on how I would use them, and why I think they would eventually be a good addition.

#1900620 IP.Gallery 3.1.0 Released

Posted IPS News on 18 January 2010 - 11:09 AM

We are pleased to announce IP.Gallery 3.1.0 has been released.

The following is a list of what's new in this version of IP.Gallery:

Friendly URLs
We've integrated gallery into the global FURL system used by IP.Board 3, this will allow gallery to create friendly URLs for categories, albums, and images.

Category/Album Covers
When viewing an image, you will have a new option to set that image as the 'cover' for the category or album that contains the image.  When a cover image is specified for a category or album, that image will always be displayed, in place of the last uploaded image thumbnail.

Sub Albums
Albums now support unlimited sub albums, which work exactly like gallery sub categories.

Profile Picture Album
You can now create a new kind of album, a 'Profile Picture' Album. After this album has been created, any images that you upload to it will be displayed on the change picture page in your User CP, making them easy to select as your profile image.

Image notes
Image owners are now able to add notes to sections of their images, positioning and resizing them to suit. Other members will be able to see the notes when hovering over the image. (An example)

Image rotation
Images can now be rotated in 90° increments, to compensate for those photos taken in landscape or portrait, but saved in the wrong orientation.

New slideshow
We have completely rewritten the slideshow feature! It is now a unified interface, loading images on demand as necessary. Users can play or pause the slideshow at will, or jump to specific photos using the thumbnail bar.

Friends-only albums
When creating an album, users can now choose to restrict viewing to only those users who are on their friends list.

Reputation support in comments
We have added support for IP.Board's reputation feature in comments posted within IP.Gallery.

Interface tweaks
We have updated the style of categories so that larger versions of the image are used, to give more impact. The image listing has also been updated, and will now show as many images on a row as the users browser can fit. This should improve the display of IP.Gallery for users who have higher screen resolutions. The image view screen has also been improved, including support for those features mentioned above.

Downloading

You can download IP.Gallery 3.1.0 if you have an active license in the client area. As always, make a backup of your community before proceeding.
