I will be getting IP.Board and IP.Blog no matter what... just trying to find a good/best solution for 'serving' dynamic content while not having that 'content' looking like a msg board/blog look and feel. I am honestly not sure how some of this content will be published, but I am looking at signin and post and/or RSS and formatting (? not sure how some do it yet)
As far a publishing content with IP.Content from IP.Boards any one have any examples that they are using.
Once again thanks for all the help.
Not exactly.
IP.Content CAN pull topics/posts from the forums, yes. This IS a possibility.
However, IP.Content supports custom databases (around the middle of the post you quoted I mention this) and THIS can be used to make a true separate articles system. We do that here.
Example 1: http://community.inv...s/official.html
Example 2: http://community.inv...s/articles.html
It is not a link in the ACP labeled "Articles", but as you can see from those two links above, you can easily create an articles system using IP.Content.
In using the databases feature, you have full control over the templates used to display the categories, record listing, and record itself, so you can make it look however you want. We use relatively stock templates in the 2 example links above, but you can make some dramatic changes and get the data looking pretty unique, if you want to.
Most people tend to use the databases feature for an articles system, instead of feeding content from IP.Board, in my experience.
#1777599 Invision Power Board 3.0.0 Beta 1 Released
Posted
IPS News
on 22 December 2008 - 01:28 PM
The first beta release of IP.Board 3.0.0 is now available for download to those with current, active licenses to IP.Board. This first beta is only available to active license holders but future betas will be available to a larger audience.
This is the first beta release so please take a moment and read this entire announcement before downloading.
- As this is a beta release there will be bugs and issues with the software. Please report any issues using our bug tracker. Before reporting please first quickly check to see if anyone has already reported your issue.
- This first beta is encoded using IonCube. Beta releases are encoded so we can better control the release and ensure any reported problems are code-related and not due to modifications. Please ensure you are familiar with how to install IonCube encoded PHP software. The final version will not be encoded.
- Technical support is not available for this beta software.
- Do not use this software on a public install. Wait for the final series for your public installs.
- There will be no upgrade path between beta versions.
- You cannot (and should not try to) upgrade from previous versions of the software.
- In general, only download and participate in the beta test if you are comfortable working with beta software.
This beta version of IP.Board 3.0.0 requires PHP 5.2.1 or greater and MySQL 4.1.22 (5 or greater preferred) to operate. We have included the Ioncube loaders with the download for 32 bit servers. If your server is running a 64 bit operating system, you will need to visit Ioncube directly to download the loaders.
Testing Help
For this beta release we need your help testing certain key areas of IP.Board 3.0.0. Our preview site has allowed us to test the front-end of the community pretty extensively but the AdminCP of IP.Board 3.0.0 still needs to be thoroughly tested. We thank you for your assistance in ensuring IP.Board 3.0.0 is tested.
Known Issues
- The AdminCP help system is still being populated and styled. The final version will be complete and look much more integrated. It will also be hidden by default.
- Chat Services and Subscription Manager are not included in this beta. They will be available in future betas.
- The installer routine inside the AdminCP (for installing components) will not work properly in this beta. If you wish to test components (such as Calendar) be sure to install them during the main IP.Board install routine.
- There are areas of the AdminCP not properly styled at this point.
- This is not an issue but for those of you who have used IP.Board for a long time: note that conf_global.php has been moved into the admin directory.
- The public help files are currently blank. They will be rewritten and included in 3.0.0 before the final release.
Discussion
Please keep all IP.Board 3.0.0 discussion on the IP.Board 3.0.0 preview site so we can maintain organization. Thanks!

#1901256 IP.Blog 2.1.0 Released
Posted
IPS News
on 19 January 2010 - 01:31 PM
The following is a list of what's new in this version of IP.Blog:
User Interface
The user interface has had a complete facelift to bring it up to standard. The new look feels more 'bloggish' and enhances the experience. We have added drop down menus at the top so that you can quickly access common areas and start new entries where you have permission to. The post screen has been overhauled to add functionality. You should find the new version much easier to navigate and easier to use.
Group Blogs
This is a new feature that allows you, the admin, to set up a group-wide blog. This blog is a normal blog in every other way. For example, you could set up a blog for your staff and everyone in the staff group will instantly be able to start writing new blog entries and managing comments, etc.
Blog This!
This is a brand new feature that adds a "Blog This" button to every post. This allows you to use post content in your blog entry. Furthermore, the relationship is remembered and all linked blog entries appear at the bottom of the topic when viewed.
Per-Entry Rating
You can now rate each blog entry rather than just the entire blog itself. The blog rating is still shown on the homepage as an aggregate of all rated entries.
Report Item and Reputation
You can now report an entire blog entry, or just a single comment. You can now also give someone a reputation increase/decrease in comments.
List View
A common request was the return of a fully sortable and filterable list view for blogs that emulated a forum view. We have added this in. You'll notice you can click the table headers to sort on that column and click again to reverse the sort. There is also a "List Blogs" sidebar block to quickly filter and list the blogs. There's even a little 'preview the latest entry' icon that shows the entry excerpt in a pop-up so you don't have to leave the page to preview it.
Dynamic Sidebar
We have moved some the footer links (Top 10 bloggers, etc) into a dynamic sidebar along with Recent Entries. This makes it easier to locate and saves a bit of space.
RSS Imports
Another long requested feature was to be able to create entries from an RSS feed. This is now a feature. You can control which member groups have access to this as well as limit the number of items imported on each cycle.
Banish Entries
You can now banish entries from the front page to remove any 'clutter' such as 'testing' blogs or other unsuitable content.
ACP Clean-up
We have gone through and cleaned up some of the Admin CP pages to make them a little easier to understand and navigate. We have added explanations to the 'Headers' / 'Dynamic Headers' pages so it's clear what they do.
Efficiency
We have removed several slow queries and introduced several more caching layers to substantially reduce SQL overhead when dealing with large numbers of blogs.
Downloading
You can download IP.Blog 2.1.0 if you have an active license in the client area. As always, make a backup of your community before proceeding.
NOTE: IP.Board v3.0.5 is required to be installed, before you upgrade to Blog 2.1.0.

I see that you can import your database settings from vB 3.x but can it also be done from vB 4.0 RC4?
I have upgraded to it on my board and it was the worst thing I have done. I want out of vB as soon as I can and would like to move to IPB.
Many thanks.
#1889086 only 5 users in the free version?

The problem with 5 is that if suddenly 6 people decide to chat and we have only implemented the free chat version then we will get complaints and until we implement it then we will never know if it is going to work for our community.
Would have been better if it was say 20 for the first month of release going down to 10. Some sites will not run beta, so the current testing phrase is not an option for some.
If they have never seen forums with more than 5 in them anyway, then setting a limit of 10 or even 20 would not have been an issue.
5 just seems not worth bothering with a free version. Just giving feedback.
Right now it's unlimited for the beta. I realize some people do not use betas, however now is a great time to install the chat and see just what kind of demand you're getting. If you regularly have 5 or less in the room, then you know the free version is probably sufficient. If you have up to 10 people, you'll know that either (1) you will want a version with higher limits, or (2) IP.Chat won't be suitable for you.
Basically, we're doing exactly what you suggest, except we're doing it during the beta period.
Right now we are seeing less than 5 in a room. This does not mean this is the activity we will see once it goes final, and we have to plan accordingly. There's nothing stopping us from increasing the limit 6 months from now if we find that it is underutilized and we can easily handle 10 without undue costs.
Please keep in mind that at the end of the day, this is a business, and we can only do so much for free.

I wouldn't mind a ten user package for IP.Chat, but it's doubtful that I would spend more than $15 on the package.
We have not announced the prices yet.

There was an additional post to the announcement that explained exactly how to stop the database errors when uninstalling Chat....did you miss that post perhaps?
