I had considered iPB a few months back and then decided it might be best to stick with what I know best, which has been vB4. Part of this was due to my dependance on vBSEO. Now, I'm seeing iPB is very focused on SEO for the 3.1 release, which is great.
  • With iPB 3.1, will there be a change in URL structure? If I decide to move to iPB, will I benefit from waiting for a new URL structure in 3.1? If not, it's safe to say the improvements are not to the URL structure.
  • I currently use a mix of Joomla and WordPress (Joomla component) for my frontpage (home) content. Do you have any sort of import script to bring my content from Joomla to iPB Content?
  • When using iP Content and iP Board, when a visitor comments on an article, does it reflect in a forum category? I'm trying to establish best practices to generate more comments on my frontpage content.
  • Do you have a built-in ad manager that allows for integrating Google Adsense, etc.?
  • Is there any corresponding "plug-in" that is similar to the "thank you hack" for vBulletin, where a user can thank another user for a useful thread?
  • I have multiple authors who write content for my site. Using iP Content, how easy is it to add articles, as compared to a WordPress blog?

I've found that by simply moving from vb 3.8 to vb 4, my users were in a state of shock. They are getting used to it, but change is tough on a forum community. It's caused me to reflect on whether moving to vB4 was the right move and if I should jump ship now.

I'm real impressed with the social features -- Twitter, Facebook integration. Great, great stuff.

1) The changes are not to the URL structure. We've discussed the URL structure a little, but too many massive changes to link structure isn't really a good thing. That's not to say nothing will ever change in the future, but it's unlikely we'll change the structure without good reason.

2) You could discuss this with our conversions department. As I understand it, the vb4 CMS can be imported into IP.Content, so it's possible the conversions specialist can do something with Joomla as well. He'll probably need a look at your database to let you know for sure.

3) Not at present, no. Comments are self-contained within IP.Content.

4) Not at present, no.

5) Well, I can't see any reason you couldn't use the reputation system for this. Disable negative reputations, change the + icon on each post to something else (a thumbs up, or a small thank you sign) and then it would work fine for this purpose.

6) That's a hard question to answer. It's as easy as clicking the "Add Article" button and submitting the content. You can setup articles to be added from the front end and acp, or acp only, you can control who can add articles, but other than that, it's no different than adding a post to the forums for the most part.
