#1869229 Nginx Rewrite rules for IPB 3.0

Posted Helmi on 20 October 2009 - 09:23 AM

i'd like to hook in here. Why not officially support nginx? Nginx is the most attractive Webserver currently, especially for sites taking more than the basic 1000 visits a day. More and more software products support or even recommend nginx. It would be great to see IP.* in this line.

Nevertheless: Probably anyone around already collected experiences with nginx and ip.board?

#2253207 Pros and Cons of Blogs as News vs. the IPS News Forum

Posted Traaginen on 11 April 2012 - 05:30 PM

I understand the premise, but it's redundant and slightly annoying to click an "IPS Latest News" link in my ACP, get redirected to some one sentence topic in the News and Announcements forum, and then have to click a "View Full Article" link to get directed to the blog to read about it.

#2251531 IP.Board & The Forum Will Be Dead Within 5 Years

Posted Matt on 07 April 2012 - 03:16 PM

These topics are always very interesting.

Facebook is fantastic news for forum owners. You can get people signing up and participating with a few short clicks. You can share topics quickly to a very wide audience and with the new timeline format being forced upon pages and brands, it's even more apparent that Facebook is not a good tool for fans to interact in a meaningful way.

Indeed, I have direct experience of a brand that used to use Facebook as a community purchase IPB as they had outgrown Facebook.

I mean no offense, but I think you vastly overestimate the role of social media. With some exception, for the most part social media and communities simply fill different niches.

Major social networking sites have been around for quite a few years now, and yet forums are still there.

#2242354 Login problems

I sort of had a problem too. On the mobile skin I login and afterwards it keeps me on the log in screen. But at least I'm logged in.

#2245039 IP.Tracker, please IPS...

Posted Lee69 on 24 March 2012 - 04:43 PM

Just wanted to pop in and say IP.Tracker is one of the reasons I haven't switched to XenForo, as they do not offer this solution. Hopefully Charles assigns someone to resurrect IP.Tracker's project in the near future. I fear we could be stuck on an older IP.Board version when compatibility breaks.

Thanks for the work so far on it.

#2244570 IP.Tracker, please IPS...

Posted AlexJ on 23 March 2012 - 02:36 PM

First IP.Portal then IP.Shoutbox, then probably IP.Tracker and then prolly IP.Converge.... All good things doesn't last forever.  I am glad we have people like Michael who took the shoutbox and is providing updates and fixes.

After all it's all about $$ so can't blame IPS either.

#2242432 No quick way to get to IPS homepage

Posted rbiss on 19 March 2012 - 10:35 AM

It seems awkward the way you have 3.3.3 set up here. Only way I can see to get to your homepage is to click a series of links or go to the copyright link at the bottom (or fill in url address bar).  Unless I'm blind.

#2241214 My feedback on wordings

Posted Grumpy on 16 March 2012 - 12:47 AM

I'm most probably nitpicking, but I quite dislike the default wordings in various areas of the forum.

For example, in avatar upload, it says:
Recommend an image 200px or larger
Okay... who even allows 200+ larger avatars on their forums? I know it scales down but then I get people coming and saying... My avatar is huge, but it won't upload! It fails!!! And they try bigger and bigger.
/facepalm
Some say, my avatar is small after I upload! It recommended a large avatar!
/facepalm
It doesn't even display the actual forum maximum sizes. I'm actually quite clueless as to why it recommends big avatars.
I think it would make more sense to say: Large avatars are scaled down to a maximum size of: x and y.

And for things like signatures, it says:
Your signature may contain:
• Any number images
• Images of any size
• Any number of URLs
• Any number of lines

I understand you can put limits and these are reflecting the limits. But under default settings, IPB will take its effort to outline that they can abuse the sig system. Rather, it almost sounds like they should abuse it. Despite my custom forum rules saying you shouldn't have huge signatures, people read that and they think it's fine. When signature is moderated, they come to complain asking why it was removed.
/facepalm
IPB could have simply said nothing! I think it would be lot better to only list restrictions. Not their freedoms.

Some more, but generally, I hope who ever writes this takes more consideration into people who lack common sense. Make things less ambiguous.

#2183007 Remove CopyRights

IP.Board is also not open source software.  It is viewable-source, and there's a big difference.

#2237184 Why Can't You Guys Keep This Simple?

Posted insectdude on 03 March 2012 - 12:08 PM

It would make life easier if IPS could publish a list of changed template files with each new release (not including major versions that involve total redesigns, of course). I believe XenForo do this. It means admins can easily use the ACP's template comparison tool to update just the templates that need it, rather than having to check through every single one.

Maybe this is something that is already done and I just haven't noticed it in the past - if that's the case, somebody please tell me where I should be looking. :)

How dare this software evolve! Shame on IPS, I should not have to redo my skins twice a decade.

#2232906 IP.Board Security Update

Posted IPS News on 20 February 2012 - 07:11 AM

It has come to our attention that a XSS (Cross Site Scripting) attack is possible within the Admin CP. The javascript is only executed when viewing the detailed pop-up of a specific failed admin log in.

This issue exists in all IP.Board 3 versions. We recommend that everyone using these versions apply this simple one file patch.

Simply download the zip for your IP.Board version, expand the zip on your computer and upload the file to the relevant folder on your server. The directory structure is maintained in the zip so you will have no issues finding the file.

If you need assistance, please contact technical support.

IP.Board 3.2.x
Attached File  feb_3_2_x.zip   2.72K   4178 downloads

IP.Board 3.1.x
Attached File  feb-3_1_x.zip   2.76K   1068 downloads

IP.Board 3.0.x
Attached File  feb-3_0_x.zip   2.76K   375 downloads

If you are running a version of IP.Board older than those listed we highly recommend you upgrade to the latest, supported version as it will include this and other fixes.
