#2039361 Paypal Subscription only

Posted Nityananda on 07 November 2010 - 08:40 AM

Hi Guys,
I am currently using nexus as a replacement for subscriptions and therefore would like people to only be able to subscribe to payments on particular items and not just make one of payments. Is it possible for me to just have the subscription link on a particular item? If not could this feature be implemented?

#2087358 3.2 IPB feature request - Gallery integration

Posted Scott Brooke on 06 March 2011 - 10:09 AM

First, before someone tells me I'm posting in the wrong area (which I might still be) I'm not asking for a Gallery feature.  This is an IPB feature request as I understand it.

See this post:  http://community.inv...ost__p__2087352

I want to make sure someone on the dev side for IPB 3.2 is taking a look at the issues with Gallery integration.  It looks like you're moving towards use of Gallery images to replace avatars.  That's excellent!  Take it a step further and make it so users can link to Gallery images from new posts and replies.  I'm stuck on SMF until you add this and that really burns me since I paid for this software already.  That's on me for not doing my research deep enough.  I figured the Gallery app was integrated instead of merely being attached.

#2078578 [Suggestions] IP.Downloads

Posted markopolo2002 on 10 February 2011 - 03:19 AM

Instead of the overall Top Downloads on the portal, I'd love to see a more 'real-time' overview, such as the Top Downloads so far this month or even from last month.   Also, further information on the various blocks always proves popular with members, such as a link to "more new downloads" or in the case of my suggestion above "more popular downloads", etc

Posted markopolo2002 on 04 February 2011 - 05:07 AM

Also, the "like" button isn't proving very popular with members, I think it's probably more confusing than anything, although in fairness I think we do have a lot of older folk on our site, but I for one would like to suggest the re-introduction of a seperate "Watch This File" button for downloads.

#2087267 Suggestion: Reviews only for Downloaders...

Posted WebbyB on 06 March 2011 - 04:06 AM

Hi,

People tend to be lazy and add questions/issues within the "Reviews" part of the download - Naturally a review should only be allowed to people who have purcased/downloaded the file - otherwise anyone can post here, which doesn't seem right.

Any questions/issues should post in the support topic, so having something that stops users from posting reviews (unless they have purchased/downloaded) and take them to the support topic would make more sense.

#2081592 Thoughts/Questions on 3.2

Posted .Ian on 18 February 2011 - 03:45 AM

Hi,

Whilst I am looking forward to 3.2, I have a few concerns/questions the way the product is going.

IP.Subscriptions - Sorry to see this free app go and be replaced by a paid app @ $75 & $70 a year. If all a site wants is subscriptions buying Nexus is an expensive option, even if Nexus is great and offers so much more. We have moved on from Subscriptions, but it is a very useful app for sites just starting out to earn money from their sites and then be able to afford to upgrade to Nexus. Will the ability to show adverts in IP.Board remain as this is also within Nexus?

IP.Portal - a very useful and simple app to go and again being replaced by an app costing £50 and $30 per year. If all you want is a home page, buying IP.Content is an overkill. As far as I know one cannot create a simple home page and easily modify it daily as you can with Portal. Please if you can, show me how & prove me wrong. ;)

IP.Calendar - this is being moved out of 3.2 into a separate app. Will this remain free and operate without the need to have support contract in place? The reason I ask is because it is mentioned alongside IP.Chat which is a free/paid app, but the free part is limited and requires a support contract.

Are any other apps being split off from the main IP.Board and if so will any of these cost money or require a support contract to operate?

Essentially depending upon the answer to the calendar, version 3.2 is going to cost at least $125 more and $100 a year more to run than 3.1.x - whilst I appreciate both these apps will be in the marketplace for a short time they are suddenly made EOL which means that there will be no update and no official support.

I am concerned that IPS is starting to go down the route that another forum company recently went down, i.e. seeing what else we can charge customers for that previously was free / included. And I honestly thought I would never think that.

The topic announcing items changing in 3.2 is being modified rather than being added to, therefore one cannot tell when it is changed and what is changed in it. Would it be possible for that post to be replied to with fresh changes, otherwise potentially large changes might be missed. What is large to one site, might be insignificant to another.

3.2 is already looking like an excellent product which will serve sites well and we have not yet got to the good bits being announced - however governments / companies are very good at hiding bad news alongside good news, so whilst the positives are great, it is the small negatives that concern me especially when they start costing a lot more money.

As we currently have 6 or 7 IPS forums, with more planned, I am concerned that we are looking at a large figure to do exactly the same as now. With some time before 3.2 we do not know if these costs will increase further. If there were no cost implications moving to 3.2 it would be excellent, but that is not the case.

#2087352 So far, disappointed by how far Gallery 4 misses the mark

Posted Scott Brooke on 06 March 2011 - 09:55 AM

I'm a new user to IPB and Gallery, coming from SMF and the nightmare that's become.  I'm truly shocked to see that image linking isn't included for IPB posts.  I understand what you're saying about the "hope" that it'll be included in IPB 3.2 but I'd suggest that you have a conversation with those coders to ensure that that happens.  Relying on hope isn't a good way of getting things done.

At this point I can't move off of SMF until and unless my users can link to images right from a post.  Asking them to go back to the method of digging into the gallery to get the url for the image to then return to the forum, sub-forum and make a post...yeah, not happening.  If this ends up getting implemented let me suggest that the user's own gallery should be right at the top of the drop down or the picker.  Whatever you want to call it.

I guess I should have done more digging before spending my coin.  I had the impression the Gallery was integrated with the Forum instead of being more like a standalone app.

Also, regarding the square thumbs.  I think this is going to be a problem for me as well, although perhaps not as much as some others.  Still, show me a modern camera that takes square pictures.  You'll be cropping every single image in the name of site aesthetics.  I'd rather it be usable.

#2086569 IP.Gallery 4.0.0 Released

Posted IPS News on 04 March 2011 - 03:59 AM

Invision Power Services, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of IP.Gallery 4.0.0!

IP.Gallery 4.0.0 is the latest version of our popular Gallery application. It has been completely rewritten to modernize the interface and to add better functionality. Everyone here at IPS is very excited at this new release and hope our customers will enjoy the update to this popular application.

Over the course of development, we've kept a blog on its development and we invite you to review the entries:

IP.Gallery 4.0.0 Manifesto
IP.Gallery 4.0 is a huge upgrade; the single biggest upgrade it has ever seen. We're blasting out the cobwebs and introducing a slick new interface that never loses sight of what a Gallery should be. We're simplifying permissions and accessibility to remove the clutter and confusion. We want you to fall in love with Gallery again.

IP.Gallery 4.0.0 Structural Changes
I want to completely re-focus Gallery and make the media the center of the application. I want users to view the images without being so concerned as to where they belong. I want to focus on organic discovery over being forced to browse pages of user albums or pages of categories.

IP.Gallery 4.0.0 View Image Page Tour
I have taken a short video to explain some of the larger changes and features of this page for Gallery 4.

IP.Gallery 4.0.0 Uploading Tour
Arguably the most crucial part of the gallery system is the upload system. A cumbersome and slow upload system deters people from uploading new images.

IP.Gallery 4.0.0 Interface Tour
I wanted to take a moment to run through the interface and explain a little more about the album types we have in IP.Gallery now.

IP.Gallery 4.0.0 Media Uploading Tour
You can upload videos alongside normal photos and quickly add a thumbnail to the video. If you upload a m4v, certain mov files and flv files, these are played in a Flash video player much like YouTube.

IP.Gallery 4.0.0 Mobile Skin
The mobile theme is lightweight as expected and makes good use of the small cropped thumbs as well as the new 'small' image that is created. This saves a lot of bandwidth which will be a huge relief to those that don't have a good 3G signal.

Release Notes

  • If you are using IP.Content blocks that use Gallery data, please wait until IP.Gallery 4.0.1 for the updated IP.Content integration

  • We have had several beta releases for testing and are confident any major issues have been addressed. However, as this is the first supported release that will be used by thousands of people, there could be as yet undiscovered issues. Please report issues in the bug tracker.

  • Important technical support note: During the launch of a new products, and the great interest created, support response times (especially for install or upgrade requests) may be delayed. We appreciate your understanding during the launch time. If your community is critical in nature and even the slightest delay in support services would impact you then you may wish to wait until a future version to use IP.Gallery.

  • IP.Gallery requires IP.Board 3.1.4 and will not install on prior versions.

  • MSSQL driver files are still in development and not available with IP.Gallery 4.0.0

  • If your server uses ImageMagick (rather than GD) for image manipulation please wait for IP.Gallery 4.0.1.

Upgrading
IP.Gallery 4.0.0 has a built in upgrade system to upgrade your current IP.Gallery. However, please understand that this is a very large update and the interface has changed completely. We strongly recommend that you read the blog entries or test the Gallery installation on this site to ensure that all the functionality you need is available and the new interface suits your needs. If you have a gallery-centric site you may wish to wait for a future version. Please use the feedback forum for any discussion on the new functionality.

Version 4.0.1 Coming Soon

IPS is dedicated to promptly fixing any reported issues and will do so with the release of IP.Gallery version 4.0.1 very soon.

As mentioned in the release notes: because this is the first widely-distributed release there will be as yet undiscovered issues. You can expect several maintenance releases over the next several weeks. We appreciate your understanding and hope you can assist us in identifying any problems in this first supported release so we can quickly remedy them in our next updates.

#1950581 payment gateways?

Posted Gavrisimo on 10 May 2010 - 08:43 AM

Could you include moneybookers.com? A lot of countries dont have paypal, or any other larger payment gateway... What we can use with no problems is moneybookers.com so if you could include that - i might even buy this product... :) I mean why would i use e-commerce if i cant use any online payment gateways it is offering...

Also about "offline payment gateways", could you elaborate that a bit more? :)

He asked for music downloads, obviously Downloads can do it easily. It was not mentioned in his post when I replied (the parentheses).

#2076833 How - adding ad packages to store front

Posted .Ian on 05 February 2011 - 08:35 AM

It is under the dropdown by your name.

However people rarely see this drop down.

I have renamed mine to 'My Stuff' and the dropdown now says signed in as whatever to try and encourage better use.

I will at add a link to the ads beneath every advert, to encourage sales, but moving this to the store will help greatly.

#2073645 Subscription payment for another member as gift

Posted F. John on 27 January 2011 - 07:27 PM

Or to have the ability to create a gift card item in the ACP that one member pays for, it generates a code like the coupons do and MemberA can then give that code to a memberX that MemberX can then use upon checkout...

Better yet, MemberX can redeem the code in the client area thus crediting MemberX's account and voiding any further use of the code.
