#2306466 List of sites / pages done using CCS

Posted by dean84 on 08 September 2012 - 10:32 AM

Nice Mockup! Will you be using IPC databases to put the players in like on talkchelsea?

Yeah will be a wiki system so that members can add and edit players, each player will have a team set, and its that field then that the template will grab depending on the team being viewed. I had it working on my current site, but stopped it as was redesigning how it will all work.

This was what i got at the time i stopped to restart how it would all look. (ignore the image, hadn't re-sized it, and ignore Messi lol) that was just to test it setting the layout based on the players positions.

The team info, and stadium info will also be a wiki database. But league tables and so on will not, as that's based off an external feed.

#2270409 New License Structure

I sort of doubt it although it would be nice for sites that have multiple communities at slightly different URL's.

I agree, even if it was something simple like

www.url.com/forum1
www.url.com/forum2
www.url.com/nexus

That would be ideal, and maybe, just maybe with IP.Board being set as its own add-on as such, they could consider it. I would certainly buy more IP.Board licences if it was possible.

#2102658 Regarding new registration interface

Well cdkey, although i don't agree with all your points, I do wish that it was an on/off option as apposed to being completely removed.

I would prefer to allow my members to select a display name on registration, and agree that it isn't confusing.

But thats my opinion

I understand what you guys are saying, but a person usually likes to know their efforts are not in vein. And when trying to build a community, it is always nice to have that extra level of interaction with your members, so that they know you are there doing your jobs and not just ignoring all these issues that they are reporting.

Say you come onto my forums regularly, and you often find certain content offensive and report it, now myself and my moderators always read the reports but don't often find the content is breaking any rules, and we agree the the content stays. Chances are your going to think that we are not doing our jobs and most likely not bother making the effort in future and possibly even give up on visiting the board.

And yes it isn't hard for me to PM a member letting them know, but when you have other mods dealing with some other issues you can't check if they have said anything.

There is also a difference in interacting with members and telling them the ins and outs of what your decision was and how you came to that conclusion.

This is purely about letting a member know you have received their report, and if need be a brief explanation as to why some content wasn't removed. This way they understand why it is still there instead of thinking we haven't even bothered.

Things like:
"Thank you for your recent report regarding "a brief description of the content". We believe the content doesn't break the rules, so have decided not to remove it."

or

"Thank you for your recent report regarding "a brief description of the content". The content has now been removed from the site."

IMO it helps make them feel like they are part of the community. And it makes it more likely that they will go on to report other content in the future, as we as mods are going to miss things from time to time.

#2066532 Redirect subforums to have option to open in new page

Posted by dean84 on 11 January 2011 - 04:10 PM

Can we have an option added to the subforum redirect settings, that allow us to set it to open that specific redirect link in a new page?

The way its set up is great for links that send you to some other area's of your own forum, but if you have a subforum that links to an external site, the option to have it open in a new window would be great.

Example.

You have a support forum that is used for a specific item. You also have a redirrect subforum that will take them to the official site of that product. When clicking the link it would close your site and load theirs. Would be ideal to have it load theirs in a new page and keep your site in the original page.

#2065203 Change in how subforums show

Posted by dean84 on 08 January 2011 - 09:33 PM

Few things id like to see change about the subforum views is

a) When looking at the forum, you can choose to have subforums viewable or hidden from the main view. I can only find a way to turn this on/off globally. Would be nice to have an option that allowed us to do it on a forum to forum basis. As sometiems there are areas you would like subforums to be visible, and other areas where you wish them to be hidden

b) Like a, something similar for redirect links. For me i have a particular forum, that i have a redirect link added. That i wish to have visible on the forum view. But the other subforums inside there i wish to have hidden.

Example 1: All subforums/redirects shown
1.png

Example 2: Selected subforums/redirects shown
2.png

c) When selecting a forum to see, the list of subforums IMO is an eye sore, as they are bulky tables for nothing more than a subforum link. Something a little more conservative would be nice. So that if you have an area with say 20 subforums to it then the page isnt an arms length long.

Example 1: Standard view of subforums within a forum
3.png

Example 2: A not so bulky and taking up so much space view of subforums when your in the forum menu itself, also a lil more user friendly if you have multiple subforums
4.png

Chucked it together, but you can go all the way accross. Even allow space for descriptions. But that way you are eliminating a lot of wasted space

Btw if any of these things are in IPB already, then i do appologise, but i cant seem to find them
