#2270109 New License Structure

Posted Charles on 23 May 2012 - 11:42 AM

Way it works now:
  • IP.Board Standard License = $175 + $25 renewal
Way it will work after change:
  • IPS Community Suite  = $100 no renewal
    • IP.Board = $75 + $25 renewal

So same pricing just presented differently :)

#2262484 Is there any general roadmap on support for IP.C/other apps?

Posted bfarber on 03 May 2012 - 08:31 AM

We will get to it.  There's only so much we can do in any given release.  XML output support for Content, quite frankly, is very very low priority compared to many other requested things we worked on for the last release.

#2129160 Suggestion for IPB 3.2... Global Sidebars

Posted 360glitch on 29 June 2011 - 06:45 PM

I know it has been mentioned before but I have to say it again. I'd give about anything to have global sidebars on my forum. Right now I've got the sidebar active on the portal and forum index, but it would be VERY useful to have it on every page. (forum view, topic view, ect). I just moved a site from vB to IPB and this is the only problem I've ran into. Thanks for taking the time to read my suggestion.

This is a longer term goal we are working towards, but it is not a possibility as of yet.

I would not be opposed to looking into such controls in a future version.
This response was unexpected and I was happy to hear this.
But I am stuck with vB4 due to some features of my site and the time required to re-configure eyerything in the way I want.

I was astonished today when I read your blog post here. JUST WOW!!
vB is not listening to anyone at all and here you are thinking of features which cloud be useful and including them. I started this topic only two months ago.How can you be this fast? And that speed limiting feature is more than a great addition.

I just wanted to say that even though I am not using IPB for my site, I have become a BIG fan of IPS. I remember how I compared IPB with vB six years ago and started my site with vB BUT now IPB has left vB FAR behind. I am not a customer of IPS (not yet) BUT I am a member of a lot forums powered by IPB and I like the efforts of everyone at IPS.

May be coming from me (customer of another software) it doesnt mean much BUT I said what I have in my mind. :)

#2183462 IP.Board 3.2.3 and Apps Released

Posted IPS News on 18 October 2011 - 07:12 AM

Invision Power Services, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of IP.Board 3.2.3, IP.Calendar 3.2.2, IP.Downloads 2.4.2, and IP.Content 2.2.2!

These are maintenance releases after our highly anticipated release of IP.Board 3.2 and its related applications. These releases fix many reported issues.

We are releasing the following new software:

IP.Board 3.2.3
Fully featured community platform including forums, members profiles, status system, integration, and much, much more.

IP.Calendar 3.2.2
Event calendar for your community with multiple calendars, public/private events, and iCal support.

IP.Downloads 2.4.2
Complete file management application including file version control, commenting, and forum topic linking.

IP.Content 2.2.2
Content management for your community - run a full web site or a simple community portal. The possibilities are endless.

Release Notes
  • If you are upgrading a community with a large number of posts from version 3.1.4 or earlier you may wish to have your web host execute the post table alter query on your behalf. Large post tables may time out running this query in the browser. The upgrade system will warn you if this is needed. As a benchmark, our install of 865,000+ posts took a bit less than 3 minutes to run this query.
  • If you are upgrading from version 3.1.4 or earlier, your skin will of course need to be redone after you upgrade to 3.2.
  • The visual skin editor in 3.2 should still be considered a beta feature. It will be improved with each maintenance update.
  • Each of the applications specified above is only compatible with IP.Board 3.2 and not older versions (for example, IP.Nexus 1.3 cannot be installed on IP.Board 3.1.x).
  • We may reply to this topic with hot-fix patches or notes if any critical issues come up so please use the "Follow this Topic" feature to get notified.
  • If you experience any problems, before submitting a ticket, please disable all third party applications and hooks.

While probably not necessary, you should probably consult an actual lawyer for legal advice - take anything anyone tells you on a forum with a pinch of salt ;)

#2110319 Get rid of friends and make it a follow system

Posted MagnumOpus on 11 May 2011 - 05:26 PM

I'm against the labeling of "follow". Sounds like that monstrosity called twitter and one of the things I dislike about xF. It took me some time to get over my gripe with it on xF but I still rather not have it called "followers". Friends sounds more personal whereas "follow" sounds like fandom or submission, it could use more functionality like you said but leave that kind of labeling to mindless social networks.

#2107681 French IBP

Posted SerialNoob on 03 May 2011 - 01:33 PM

Installation

1 - In your ACP, Go to the tab "Look & feel".

2 - Click "Manage Languages" in the left sidebar.

3 - In the English (USA) pack’s menu, choose “Copy language pack” .... This will create a new package named English (USA)(COPY).

4 - Rename the package to Français (France) and set the language locale to fr_FR (or fr_FR.UTF-8 if you have problems with accents on the month).

5 - If it does not exist, create the folder “translate” in the root of your forum.

Note: leave this folder empty for now.  Step 6 will automatically fill with the English files. You replace them with the files in French to Step 7.

6 - In the menu of the pack Français (France), select "Translate externally...".

7 - Send the folder “translate” contained in this package to the root of your forum, choosing to overwrite the existing files created by IP.Board English in the previous step.

8 - Go back to your ACP, click “Select All” and then at the bottom on “Import Selected Files”.

(If this results on a permanent error "Fatal error: Allowed memory size of ...", do  not select all the files but only a few to import small batches. Repeat until you have imported all the files.)

9 - Once the import is done, click on the link “recache this set”
Once the reconstruction of the cache is complete, click on the link “here to go there now” and click on the button “Finish and Remove.
The French translation is now installed for IP.Board.

To set french pack as default language:

Log in to your ACP.
Go to the tab "Look & Feel".
Click "Manage Languages" in the left sidebar.
On the pack Français (France), choose “Edit” ....
Set the Default Language option? confirm by clicking Yes  and save.
You now have a green check mark appears in column (Default Language) on the line Pack Français (France).
You just have to choose French (France) in the list of languages on the public forums so that your account uses French.

Problem of ”language local” (may occurs)

If the line Français (France) date is not in French or the sample does not match currency 12 345 231,12 €, then edit the pack: Français (France) and replace “fr_FR”  by “fr_FR.UTF-8”. If this does not work, check with your provider to know the local that are installed on your server.

I hope it helps you :)

#2095593 maintenance? How long?

Posted Joey_M on 27 March 2011 - 06:57 AM

Probably not the place to post this, although it's not intended to hi-jack the thread but I already miss the name reference, the way the renewed/active licences displayed seperately away from the non-active ones.

Looks much nicer but apart from that it's like taking a step back.

#2032782 Search is terrible

Posted Cheyne on 23 October 2010 - 01:13 AM

Im in the process of trying to build a my IP Content driven site,  and im hitting many snags around programming,  using my own code and various other adjustments,    I have to keep trying to find information on the Invision forums although im finding it incredibly difficult.

8 times out of 10 my search is rejected due to lack of character length or some other reason.

I wanted to read more on using custom PHP in my blocks,  I search for  "using PHP in blocks" .. i get

Quote

One or all of your search keywords were below 3 characters or you searched for words which are not allowed, such as 'html', 'img', etc, please increase the length of these search keywords or choose different keywords.

So i try "code in blocks" I get the same PLUS another error saying the word "code" is not allowed..  Seriously why ?   You offer products that require people to write code, but searching for the term "code" is not allowed ?

Im sure there is some intelligent and security conscious reason for this,  but from a user experience point of view its horrible .. I have to revise my search queries 3 or 4 times before its actually accepted.

I wanted to know what IP Tracker was , as I didnt know but the name sounded good .. I search for "IP Tracker",  the name of one of your products and get the same error, seriously.

Infact iv been trying to search for things all day and getting no where,  im actually using  google.com and passing     site:invisionpower.com some search  to actually search the forums here because I find it so difficult to use the search function.

I was a long time PHPBB user,  then SMF,  then vBulletin and now IPB , but this is the only time Iv ever struggled to get information so much.   In my opinion search some should fluid,  it should be quick and easy and not require logic or check boxes, forms and multiple selections,  Google has mastered this and thats why they're the kings of search.

Am I the only person who really dislikes the search feature around here?

I also suggest members not to compare IPB with Facebook. They are for a totally different market, with 2 totally different uses.

Facebook is a social networking site, thus groups are a must. IP.Board is not a social networking package, thus groups are not necessary.

I don't entirely agree with that. We should compare with Facebook, Twitter, VB and every other form of communication out there if we are to get ahead of these and create something much better which will draw people in to post. In fact IPB should be looking at ways to draw these social network posters back to forums. Implementing ways to post on these social networking sites from IPB IMO only pushes them to use them more and defeats the object of trying to keep our members on our boards.

The only difference between sites like Facebook and Twitter and IPB is the fact we are specialized in our particular field, our content is easier to be looked up and read like an archive, whereas FB and Twitter move so fast something which was posted is very hard to find for future reading.

One huge beneficial aspect Facebook has are the games and social activities which are done as groups, I would like to see this kind of thing officially implemented into IPB. It has been proven if an arcade is added for example, members will spend much more time on the forums especially if they are competing against other members. If they can also create and manage their own groups within a forum for whatever reason, be it their favourite music genre or to arrange online games together we would see an increase in the time spent on the forum leading to them using other areas more. If you look at Twitter, the speed the user is able to post messages up is the key here and this is why my members love the IPShoutbox. I would also like to see something like Facebook's wall where all content is updated as it happens and they can comment on them from there, I don't particularly like how the view new content is split up depending on application and would rather this altogether in one part.

So IPB should be looking at as many ways as possible to keep our members active and happy on OUR boards not sending them to other social networks, but these social network site also hold a very important key to the future of forums.
