#2120809 3.2 Rate Topic Stars shoud not be above title (feedback)

Posted Christophe on 10 June 2011 - 01:28 PM

It does not look right to have the rate topic stars before the title or the calendar event or post in terms of usability.
Just looking at this very topic you can see the rate topic...is there any usability reason why this is placed before the title?

#2164310 A couple of suggestions for tags

Posted Bobbins on 02 September 2011 - 12:56 PM

Not sure if any of these have been mentioned, or are planned but here goes.

1. Read-ahead tags. I.e you start typing in a tag and if it's already been used before it will list it for you to choose. So say I type tod and the tags today and todo have been used previously, they will pop up as suggestions.

2. The ability to type your own tags and select from a predefined list. Currently we can only allow users to either make up their own, or choose from some predefined ones. A combination of the two would also be a nice option.

#2118671 Suggestion: Next Step After Registration

Posted Rikki on 06 June 2011 - 04:19 PM

This is something I personally would have liked to have done, but unfortunately time got the better of us (and it was never discussed internally anyway - not everyone would share my opinion ;) ). I think it'd be useful to give members a way to immediately fill in some important profile information.

#2118555 Suggestion: Next Step After Registration

Posted CallieJo on 06 June 2011 - 01:29 PM

Having a next step after registration is complete could be very helpful to end users. Optionally call it a New Member "To Do" List.

Include a list of optional things they could do to make their experience in the community more personal.
First in the list should be to verify their email (If admin required).
Optional ideas like uploading an avatar, filling out the about me for the profile, and any other "To Do" ideas you'd like to present to new members to help get them started.

This idea could also be included in a new Personalized User Entrance Page. Show the new users what they can or should do next. Then show current end users the content that matters to them on a personal level.

If you look at the major social networks you'll notice a little bit of hand holding to show end users what to do and how to do it. You'll also notice that end users are presented with the content that relates to them when they log in. We can learn a lot from the big social networks.

#2147828 Disallow permanent deletion

His point is that he wants everything to leave a trail, he doesn't want anything permanently deleted. That's how 3.2 works, even for hard-deleted content. It doesn't actually delete anything, it just puts it out of sight.
There is an option in the ACP for the deleted items in the Mod CP to be pruned. I lost some of the content in there because it was set to prune after 5 days by default. I changed it to something ridiculous like 100,000 days, but it still bugs me a little that I cannot disable it entirely.

On the note of leaving a trail... you can effectively "lose" much of it if a member decides to edit his or her post. I've had it happen where a member starts a topic, then edits his first post to a message like "please delete this". I have absolutely no idea what he had said, but as an admin, I probably should. Adding post history/revisions would be very, very helpful.

#2155086 I've Had It, I'm finished. 3.2 is awful. I hate it. No more!

Posted rastaX on 16 August 2011 - 10:30 AM

I've had it since final was released, but finally got it up and running and now I'm finished.

My opinion now is 3.2 is awfully good. I hate it when I'm wrong, but my initial feeling about the changes were not positive. No more! Now that I have launched a new community using 3.2 I'm pretty well sold on it.

Congrats IPB, you've managed to turn this stubborn old goat around............ Posted Image

#2154740 Make the "Follow this topic" button / popup.... more intuitive!

Posted cmiller on 15 August 2011 - 09:13 PM

I'm not sure why, I am just not feeling the new "Follow this topic" options. Mainly because it doesn't seem intuitive. As a member who may not be familiar with forums, I feel like I really don't know what I am getting. I also don't think anyone is going to realize that they can actually choose NO option at all, and be notified only inline, or in the user bar.

SO... here is what I am suggesting. Ditch the checkmark next to "Receive Notification". We're going to make them choose SOMETHING there. Rename it to "Notification Type" and let's populate the drop down with:

1) Instant Email
2) Email only when not online
3) 1 Email per day max
4) 1 Email per week max
5) On-site notification only (no email)

Let's leave the checkmark box next to the anonymous option and let it be smaller and down low on the popup window.

I just think this will streamline everything, and make it easier for members to understand exactly what's going on.

Thoughts?

#2144093 3.2.0 What Happened To...?

Posted PW Nowe on 30 July 2011 - 09:42 PM

While that's true, then why is there still an option for f_readonly in the skin replacement variables (The same as all the others listed in the tracker topic). Just the same, how is a member suppose to know without visiting the forum that it is read only? I found the use of the f_readonly.png useful because I could identify from the index which forums where read-only, which I don't classify as redundant.

Understand that from our perspective you are not our customer - the account owner is. We have no way of knowing if/who/when you bought that license from. All we know is the data that is in our client system and if it has the other person's name and email then that is who we must speak to.

this is like trying to talk to a friggin wall...
