#2092140 IP.Board 3.1.4 Compatibility Patch for Internet Explorer 9

Posted IPS News on 18 March 2011 - 09:31 AM

IP.Board 3.1.4 JavaScript Patch for Internet Explorer 9 Compatibility

With the recent release of Internet Explorer 9, JavaScript compatibility issues have been reported with IP.Board 3.1. These issues stem from the fact that IP.Board utilizes Prototype, a popular JavaScript library, and the latest stable release of Prototype at the time of 3.1.4's release was version 1.6. Prototype version 1.7 has since been released to include compatibility with Internet Explorer 9.

Today we are releasing a patch for IP.Board 3.1.4 that includes the updated Prototype library (version 1.7) so that our clients may update their communities immediately. While IE9 is still new, adoption of the latest release of this popular browser is expected to grow quickly, and we want to ensure that our software works in as many commonly-used browsers as possible.

Updating your Community

As of the time of this announcement, the main IP.Board 3.1.4 download in your client area has been updated. If you download 3.1.4 after this announcement, your download will include the patch. You may optionally download the full 3.1.4 release and upload it to your community to ensure it is fully up to date at any time.

To patch your community manually, follow these simple steps:

 • Download the patch zip file attached to this announcement
 • Extract the zip file locally on your computer
 • Upload the contents of this zip file to your server, preserving directory structure (the /public folder should overwrite the /public folder on your server where IP.Board is located)

If you require assistance or have any questions, please feel free to submit a ticket.

 • Be aware that as this patch only involves updating a single JavaScript file, you and your users may need to clear your browser cache for the changes to take effect.
 • We believe this patch will work on any versions of IP.Board 3.1.x but has only been tested on version 3.1.4.

#1957509 IPS Community Suite Benefits

Posted IPS News on 24 May 2010 - 09:33 AM

In addition to the great software that IPS offers in its Community Suite line, we offer many great benefits that go along with the products to enhance your community, make it easier to manage, and allow you to focus on your members rather than software management.

As the first supported release of IP.Board 3.1.0 and its applications is nearly here, we thought we would take this time to review all the great benefits you get along with the software suite itself.

Spam Monitoring Service [more info]

The Spam Monitoring Service is a great, free service for all active IP.Board license and IPS Community Hosting clients. The Spam Monitoring Service leverages the many thousands of IP.Board community installs all over the web to help track and catch those spammers attempting to register on your community. It works like this:

 • Someone attempts to register on your community.
 • Your local IP.Board install contacts IPS Spam Monitoring servers to see if that user registering is a known spammmer.
 • If so, the service gives the account a score of the likelihood it is a spammer and your IP.Board can ban them or put them up for manual approval depending on your preferences.

The Spam Monitoring Service can "learn" from the thousands of communities reporting registration statistics to it and spot trends. For example, a real human would never be able to register on 50 communities in a matter of one minute but a spam bot could so the service learns from this and bans accounts it sees doing that sort of behavior.

For the privacy of you and your members registering, the service does not store any member information permanently.

Skin Generator [more info]

The free Skin Generator is a great tool to get you on your way to customizing the look and feel of your community to make it your own. For both novice and advanced skinners, the Skin Generator speeds up the process of creating a skin with custom colors, header, and other options. From there you can continue to edit it to further create your own, unique look for your community!

Community Projects [more info]

There are many great products that IPS itself doesn't have time to make. To fill those gaps, some of our great community of customers have come together to volunteer their time to create free products that work right with IP.Board as any other application. All are offered for free to active license holders and done for the fun of it by the volunteers. Be sure to thank them for their time and expertise!

Resources Section [more info]

We have some amazingly talented people in our customer community and many of them create great articles, tutorials, graphics, skins, and modifications to the IPS community suite. Many are free, some have a small fee, all can be useful enhancements to your community.

Take a look through the directory of articles for interesting tutorials and tips for your community. The Downloads section is full of graphics, skins, modifications, and more for your community. Finally, be sure to subscribe to receive updates (or the RSS feed) on the Resources Blog where our community of contributors can post updates on their latest creations!

iPhone App [more info]

Our new iPhone App for IP.Board has already been a great success and is free for both you and your members! Now your members can visit your community quickly and easily while on their mobile device. They can upload Gallery images and even update the status on your community and, if enabled, Facebook and Twitter all at once.

The iPhone App is brand new and we will continue to enhance it with your feedback. An Android platform app is on the way too!

Technical Support

Included with every IP.Board license and IPS Community Hosting account is great support. You can feel free to ask us a basic question, request we install or upgrade the community suite software for you, or query us on an advanced question. We are here to help your community grow and let you focus on your members rather than technical issues.

IP.Chat [more info]

Having Live Chat on your community adds a unique way for your members to interact. The IP.Chat service includes 5 online users for free with your suite and you can upgrade to higher levels for a very low yearly fee.

Your chat logs are available right in your AdminCP (with IP.Board 3.1) and you can easily kick, ban, or even privately chat with members by simply clicking their name right in the chat room.

Community Directory [more info]

The new Community Directory allows any IP.Board community to be listed right on your site. Show off your community and get more traffic! The Directory is brand new so be one of the first to list your community. Also, for even greater exposure, a future version of our iPhone App will include mobile access to the Directory.

We hope you enjoy all these benefits to using the IPS Community Suite! We will continue to innovate and add more benefits all the time. Everyone at IPS is looking forward to the release of the first supported version of IP.Board 3.1.0 on the afternoon of June 1 (Eastern time). Thank you for your support!

#1935567 Welcome to IP.Board 3.1!

Posted Matt on 01 April 2010 - 09:48 AM

I've just updated this board to the very latest development copy.

Please perform a hard refresh / delete any browser caches to ensure the very latest JS and CSS is retrieved by your browser. If you experience any JS errors or 'missing' features, it is likely to be a stale browser cache.

This update brings numerous fixes and a few additions:

- Colour picker on 'Background Color' field in the User's CP.

- Collapsable side bar blocks
Posted Image

- Topic preview pop-up displays the first match when searching

We have received a lot of feedback about the notifications system and this is very much on our list to improve.

#1930027 Feature reguest: change themes via URL

Posted bfarber on 22 March 2010 - 08:35 AM

But....your skin still changes. That doesn't change the "exploit", only how long the user will be affected by the exploit.

Take the lowest common denominator here. Someone's grandmother who only ever signs online to read some posts on her favorite scrapbooking forum. She logs in, visits a thread she thinks will be interesting, and suddenly the layout is drastically different, the colors are different, the background is black instead of green, the text is white instead of red. She'd be thoroughly confused and have no idea what is going on. All because someone forced her skin to change without her involvement. While tame, it's a valid "exploit" we have to protect against, and so we are.

#1933736 Does IPB3.1 with its built-in ad support allow the use of Flash adverts?

Posted The Old Man on 29 March 2010 - 11:24 AM

This question stems from a ticket (ID #647198) and Mark H. who replied suggested that I post it here as IPB3.1 isn't out yet...

"Does IPB3.1 with its built-in ad support allow the use of Flash adverts?"

The question stems from me not being able to make use of the following code in the forum rules section to display a Flash-based banner, it just displays the source code instead of the banner.

script type="text/javascript" src="http://awebsiteurlblahblah.com/fujs.php?PURL=skytv.at/MissionCritical&CID=5592"></script

The response was, "Flash anywhere in IP.Board can be problematic due to its security risk, and there are a couple places where it (and HTML) is hard-coded to prevent it from parsing."

Thank you!

I've seen that as well, but the point is, why change it, what exactly was the point in changing it.

There is no issue at all, just putting my opinion across, thats what this forum is for "feedback"

The reasons for the change were quite clearly explained in Matt's post, linked above. :)

#1925383 How do I cancel my "Order"

Posted Perfect Chaos on 13 March 2010 - 04:03 PM

Now then, I have been searching for a way to cancel my order, and havn't found one.

Either I am a pathetically blindsighted fool, or there is in fact no way to cancel an order/package and will end up being incredibly pissed off.

So, then. Which is it going to be? Am I able to cancel? If so, for the love of (Insert divinity here) tell me how the hell to do so.

Edit: Yes, I realise this is in the wrong Forum.

I think the people are more annoyed when they say "when it is ready" than as an approximate date when they say they can not fulfill. They look more Vbulletin or other developers. There is not who says, "when it is ready", that exists only here at IPS.
I disagree. I think most people are satisfied knowing we try to put out a quality product when we think it is ready to be released, rather than trying to get a product out the door on a predetermined release date.

Posted Maxxius on 06 March 2010 - 02:30 PM

dont point me to that blog, I read it, I always do.

When It's Ready™ - screw that :D

It will save me lots of time just going to 3.1.0 rather than 3.05 and then to 3.1.0.

Wolfie, I admire your sense of humour, but thats not what I'm willing to learn here.

So when is it, IPS team? Month? Two?

#1916466 Feature Creep on IPB 3.x?

Posted Fast Lane! on 22 February 2010 - 02:32 PM

I love many of the new features but I get the feeling that IPB has become stuck in "Feature Creep" mode.

http://en.wikipedia....i/Feature_creep

I am worried that some of the more basic elements of the forum design are getting overlooked, in addition to releases taking longer. There are so many "small" updates that seem to span everywhere with no cohesiveness other than to make the site as "social" as possible (good in a way). It just seems like the IPB Forums software is now something different with the forums as an "add on".

One of my biggest gripes is the "clean cut" skin that was "made official" is still in beta a YEAR later. I now see other skins being talked about being final. My conclusion is that IPB has no desire to support it. They would be happy to see it die and to be forgotten. I have been waiting a year nearly to upgrade to IPB 3.x (awaiting cleancut to go final). Cleancut has had good feedback from my members when they take a look at the design. With the end of life for 2.3.4 coming in about 4 months I will be forced to upgrade and this really irks me given the cleancut situation and overall lack of skin support for something that keeps the previous look and feel for people (changing the look so drastically is akin to re-branding the look of a site so many like me are very hesitant).

My thoughts: When you try to make everyone happy and add in a lot of things, you end up not doing any of them very well. IPB may want to consider (IMO) staying focused on their "core" first and then adding these other elements second. If I were them I would have a guy full time making and supporting the official skins. They are the "forward facing" element of IPB that the end-users see. If they suck, then the forums "suck" regardless of what cool coding is behind the scenes.

#1902528 IP.Board 2.3.6 and Related Applications: end of life announcement

Posted IPS News on 22 January 2010 - 10:02 AM

IP.Board 3 was released on June 25, 2009 and through the various update cycles is now a stable, mature product with a version 3.1 release forthcoming.

So that we can focus all of our development, support, and service efforts on our new version 3 platform, we are announcing the end of support (sometimes called end of life or EOL) for the following IPS software versions (and earlier versions than those listed):

 • IP.Board 2.3.6
 • IP.Blog 1.4.2
 • IP.Gallery 2.2.4
 • IP.Downloads 1.2.2

Technical support, installations, and related services will end for these products on July 1, 2010. On that date all technical or service requests will be advised to simply upgrade to the most recent versions of the products. We will not force upgrades but will also not be able to diagnose issues or answer questions relating to the older software. Also, on that date, IPS will no longer address any new issues or bugs reported in the older software versions.

Security Updates

In the event an issue is discovered impacting the security of these older versions of the software, IPS will provide a patch posted in our announcements forum. We will continue to provide security updates until January 1, 2011.
