#2270977 All IPB forums breaching EU law

Posted Charles on Yesterday, 09:15 AM

Two more points: no one is really clear on this law. One person will tell you our software is already compliant someone else will tell you another. Reminds me of SEO

For example: the only cookies our software stores are temporary cookies needed for the software to function. They contain no personal information. The only time personally identifiable cookies are permanently stored in IPS software is if a user logs in and check the "remember me" box. I would say that's consent seeing as they checked a box specifically telling the software to remember, personally, who they are.

Going beyond that point: sure we could include all sorts of complicated language and options in the Suite standard but what happens the instant someone customizes anything? When you install a hook, application, alter the skin to put in ad code, etc. you are changing how our software behaves out of the box. Therefore anything we might include to try to comply with this, or any other random law around the world, becomes fruitless.

Therefore I still go back to the fact that compliances with your laws is something only you can do. We provide tools to help you do that of course.

#2270954 All IPB forums breaching EU law

Posted Steven UK on Yesterday, 08:51 AM

The sooner the UK move away from being directed by the EU, the better.

These directives are definitely coming into force? I have seen many similar situations regarding directives, and I would estimate that 99% of UK websites do not comply with them, mainly through lack of knowledge that they even exist.

Apparently from April this year, every single website in the UK had to have an SSL certificate if they are storing customer details. This was mentioned to me by a company who work directly with the government in the UK. Nobody has heard anything about it since.

To enforce such changes, would be near impossible.

#2270094 New License Structure

The only difference is all products will renew at the same time, rather than on random days that depended on the day you purchased it.

#2270082 License Structure Changes: The Formula

Posted Charles on 23 May 2012 - 11:11 AM

Reference our blog entry this topic is referring to...

This topic explains the formula we are using to calculate the renewal dates when we change the license structure. For general feedback or questions on the license structure as a whole please create a new topic.

Here are examples on how we would recalculate renewal dates and such.

Standard License with apps
  • IP.Board Standard License expiring 1 June 2012
    • IP.Gallery expiring 1 July 2012
    • IP.Blog already expired
IP.Board has a 6 month renewal rate of $25 and Gallery has a renewal rate of $10. This means that if IP.Board's days are worth 1 then IP.Gallery's days are worth 0.4 ($10 / $25). Assume today is 15 May 2012 so IP.Board has 15 days of credit and IP.Gallery has 45 days.

So now we have to calculate the equivalent days. We do IP.Gallery's 45 days * 0.4 = 18 days equivalent credit to IP.Board. It is 15 days between today (15 May) and IP.Board's expiration (1 June) so therefore we have 15 + 18 = 33 days of credit to work with.

Next we have to sort out how to apply those 33 days of credit. We are altering the renewal dates of IP.Board at a factor of 1 and IP.Gallery at a factor of 0.4 so 1.4 days of credit to keep everything active. Taking 33 / 1.4 gives us 23.57 (24) days of credit from today's date. So this results in 24 days from today (15 May):
  • IPS Community Suite
    • IP.Board new expiration of 9 June 2012
    • IP.Gallery new expiration of 9 June 2012
    • IP.Blog remains expired
Another example:
  • IP.Board Standard License expiring 1 June 2012
    • IP.Nexus expiring 1 July 2012
This case is a bit different as IP.Nexus has a higher renewal rate ($35) than IP.Board so the weight is 1.4. However, the formula is the same:

IP.Nexus 45 days * 1.4 = 63 days resulting in 78 days of credit from today (15 May). Again adding in the weights gives us 2.4 so we then do 78 / 2.4 = 32.5 (33) days of credit:
  • IPS Community Suite
    • IP.Board new expiration of 18 June 2012
    • IP.Gallery new expiration of 18 June 2012
    • IP.Blog remains expired
Business License

For business licenses we will add in a new package type called "Priority Support and Service" or similar that will be an addon package to the Suite license.

Legacy Licenses

Lifetime license will change to:
  • IPS Community Suite
    • IP.Board (Legacy: lifetime license - no extra services - ticket support included) No Expiration
If a Lifetime license holder as addons they will be recalculated using the same formula.

Perpetual license will change to:
  • IPS Community Suite
    • IP.Board (Legacy: perpetual license - no extra services - ticket support available on renewal) Expiration date caries over using same formula
IP.Board/Gallery/Blog bundle will change to:
  • IPS Community Suite
    • IP.Board with current expiration date
    • IP.Gallery with no expiration
    • IP.Blog with no expiration
General renewals and new purchases

IP.Nexus 1.5 supports prorating purchases so when you add/renew a new application on the Suite your price paid will be prorated so renewal dates remain the same.

You will still be able to cancel renewals on specific products so, as an example, you bought IP.Gallery but decided after a while you didn't use it you can cancel that renewal yourself or reactivate it later if you change your mind.

#2270029 A few pre-sale questions

Hi There,

All my questions relate to the privately hosted IPB version. My company is looking for a replacement to the GetSatisfaction service, mainly for the reasons below.

1. Can IPB be implemented into a WordPress page, so the footer/header will be coming from Wordpress, while the content of the page will be IPB ? If it doesn't naturally fit WordPress, is there a plugin for it, or a service that you know of that does it?

2. Is there SSO implemented (specfically Google, Facebook and Twitter).

3. Is there any way to treat the board as issue tracking system, so that when a customer opens a thread, it gets "Need Respose" label, when a CSR answers it gets "Answered" and so on?

4. Is there any way that new questions are first passed through a filter that tries to find similar questions like the one the user asked? It would prevent a lot of duplicate questions.

5. Is there a way to force a user to fill in a few custom fields before posting ?

6. Is there a trial period in which we can try the full software and make a decision?

Thank you

1) You cannot directly "embed" IP.Board into Wordpress, but you have a few options.  The main ones being:
  • Stripping out the IP.Board header and footer, and then embedding IP.Board as an iframe into Wordpress.  It would visually work, but would not be the best experience for end users and search engine bots I imagine.
  • You could duplicate your wordpress header and footer to IP.Board.  This would require more work (as you'd have to copy the HTML and CSS over and then match it to IP.Board), but would be the best experience in the end.
  • Similar to the last suggestion, IP.Board templates support includes, so if your header/footer templates in Wordpress are separate and can be directly included via PHP, this is an option to speed things up a little.

2) IP.Board supports Facebook and Twitter logins out of the box, and there is a Google login module in the marketplace that you can install to add Google.

3) You have some options again
  • IP.Board supports tagging, with topic prefixes.  Your users could add the "Need Answer" tag as the topic prefix when submitting a topic, and your staff that responds could change this to "Answered" once they have responded.
  • There is a free Tracker module (click our "Tracker" tab at the top of the page) which is better suited as an issue tracking system, however it is currently offline.  It will be available again soon.

4) This is not a built in feature, but a developer could write a hook to accomplish this.

5) You can force them to fill in profile custom fields, but IP.Board does not support per-topic custom fields

6) No, however we offer a free online demo as Andy pointed out. :)

#2269648 invisionfree database

Posted Collin S. on 21 May 2012 - 11:51 PM

Your post has been split from http://community.inv...ing-forum-help/ because that thread is over one year old.

You cannot "put the database" straight on 3.1.4 or any other version - it won't run with the latest version, the forum would freak out and likely you would get a database error. You would need to run the upgrader to properly upgrade the database to the latest version.

#2266905 Upgrading to 3.3.2 - Could not have had better help

Posted Woodsman on 13 May 2012 - 07:42 PM

On the most part this is the way of IPS. They suggest between 24-48 hours or less. Usually the later...And yes they will help you with their best info in areas (server access) that is unaccessible to them... Pointing a finger to Jason H. for his fine help a few weeks ago...

#2265668 Upgrading to 3.3.2 - Could not have had better help

Posted Stenis on 10 May 2012 - 09:43 AM

Yesterday morning I upgraded my 3.2.3 board to 3.3.2 with all the latest addons. Even though I waited for a couple of maintenance releases before upgrading to a new major version there were some issues and questions raised.

This resulted in 7 support tickets which in turn resulted in a couple of problems solved by IPS, three resulting bug reports in the Tracker and the rest I could solve myself after getting the solution from IPS and/or being pointed.in the right direction.

So what I am saying is that after less than 24 hours I have been able to get not only quick but also very precise support which has made my board the way I want it to be. Many thanks for the great support and also the great product upgrades. Looking forward to what's coming next :)

#2266443 Nexus: Supported payment gateways

Posted Kimmo on 12 May 2012 - 07:22 AM

Thank you very much for your info. We do not know anything about programming, but integration would be made by the company who has made by themselves all that payment system in the first place, so most probably they can do it if it is possible at all.

Thank you very much for the link about the integration. I'll send it to the payment system company and they'll look at it.

Let's hope this will work :)

#2265365 Invision Power Board v2.1.7 to IP Board 3.x

Posted bfarber on 09 May 2012 - 03:38 PM

You can upgrade from any IP.Board version (all the way back to 1.0) to the current version.  None of your data will be lost.

The owner of the license can simply renew the license without buying a new one.  Renewal costs vary, depending on the type of license he has.  Jean has outlined the most common license types and what the renewal will cost.

#2264549 Why do we have to wait for paid purchases?

Posted Lindy on 08 May 2012 - 06:53 AM

If information matches up, you typically do not have to wait and the purchase is immediately activated. If, on the other hand, you are in one country but are trying to use billing details from another country - you should expect delays. Such transactions are our largest source of fraud, so they are indeed given extra scrutiny. If we fail to do so and a transaction is charged back, the penalties from the banks really start to add up.

Sorry for any inconvenience. If your billing address does not match your geographical location, you should unfortunately expect somewhat of a delay - with any merchant.

#2264265 Why do we have to wait for paid purchases?

Posted bfarber on 07 May 2012 - 01:28 PM

The less fraud we deal with on our end (chargebacks cost the merchant money, beyond the software being obtained for free by a user in some cases) the lower we can keep our prices. :)  Just keep that in mind.

#2264673 Link to external Privacy Policy page

Posted Michael on 08 May 2012 - 10:17 AM

In 3.3.2, a new Privacy Policy link was added.  But unlike the similar Guidelines setting, we don't have an option to link to an existing Privacy Policy page; we can only enter in Privacy Policy text and give a new title.  For those of us who already had a Privacy Policy page, please give us an option where we can link to it instead of having to copy the text into this new setting.

#2264383 LinkedIn Authorization (Login/Registration) A Must

Posted bfarber on 07 May 2012 - 07:00 PM

We base our software decisions largely on feedback from the community.  Demand for a "LinkedIn" login method has been extremely low, thus we have not put our development resources into it to date.  On the other hand, demand for Facebook and Twitter login methods was very high, and as such we implemented them.

#2263436 Geunine Load Problem

Posted AVSIM.com on 05 May 2012 - 11:04 AM

All, I just wanted to report back....after reading several other threads on here, I installed APC cache....and watched my server load go from 27+ down to <4 on a regular basis.

I am a happy happy camper now. So, I'd recommend for larger sites, CACHE CACHE CACHE and cache some more! It did WONDERS for us!
